How Software Is Saving the Planet

Today we attended a very interesting seminar about new control systems that are saving school districts thousands of dollars in heating and cooling costs per year.  The system demonstrated by Honeywell could literally tell the maintenance team how long one of the cooler doors was open down to the microsecond.

This reminded me of my friend Houston Neal from Software Advice.com who emailed me recently about several awesome products he discovered at the recent CMAA conference in San Francisco.  One such item was 4D Project management software developed in a collaboration between Google SketchUp and Synchro.  Check out the video by clicking here.

How does this software save the planet you ask?  Simple - by reducing the consumption of construction materials like wood, steel & concrete we reduce our carbon footprint and save money.  Also reduced are transportation expenses which also lessens our pollution output.

Also impressive is Google SketchUp's service to solar integrators which allows them to choose the perfect location to install photovoltaics through 4D technology.

The long and short of it is software is changing the way we live our lives.  Research and choose the solution that fits you best.

Another great resource for construction companies looking to be more productive is Construction Software Advice website.  There you can find many options to be more efficient and add to your bottom line.  Plus you'll be supporting a great company :)

White Roofing Takes South Texas By Storm

Cool white roofing technology is taking San Antonio by storm, and the storm is named Steve Good & Rocky DeMarco, area directors for Jaco Construction.  Rocky & Steve are the Alamo city's new leaders in environmentally responsible cool roofing technologies.

Based on their commitment to the environment and striking good looks (haha), they were recently the object of an article in the San Antonio Business Journal.  Click here to read the article and be sure to contact them direct for more information on tax rebates and incentives for your San Antonio area business.

For too long San Antonio area roofers have promoted ancient roofing tecniques like tar and gravel.  Its time to cool off San Antonio and save energy with a non-petrolium based, 100% recycled, cool roofing tecnologies!

McAllen Green Living Expo Update .. It was great!

Saturday October 11 saw the "new" McAllen Convention Center hosting the first annual Green Living Expo sponsored by the City of McAllen.  By 10:00 A.M the halls were packed with convention goers seeking green alternatives to save money and save the environment.  Guest speakers packed the educational sessions and free trolley rides to Falling Waters eco-subdivision.

One of the most popular displays (besides ours :)) was by South Texas Renewable Energy who promoted their solar technology.  Deane Munal, the owner, helped attendees to understand how solar works and why it works so well in the Rio Grande Valley.  For more information on their solar products click here.

We displayed a 5' x 5' Duro-Last Roof featuring rooftop garden trays and beautiful live plants.  Also popular was our energy suitcase which features a black roof versus a white roof under a heat lamp.  The black roof soared to over 175 degrees but the white Duro-last roof stayed a cool 107 degrees.

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and Keep McAllen Beautiful staff did a great job keeping everything organized and exceptional.  If you have more pictures of the show please post them here.  Otherwise join us next year as we keep McAllen green for years to come.
